Once In a Life Time Trip To Bhutan
Kuzuzangpo La !
We arrived home on Wednesday night on a delayed flight but that did not bother us at all (flight was delayed from scheduled 7.50am to 12.50pm but we were told the night before).
After arriving at the airport at 11.00am the flight was further delayed till around 2.30pm. This was due to some technical difficulties. Not a bother.
Overall my family of five (wife, 2 grown up daughters and my mother in law) were more than satisfied with all the arrangements for this once in a life time trip to Bhutan.
Hotels
The 3 hotels we stayed in were all local hotels - Namgay Heritage, Hotel Lobesa and Metta Resort & Spa. All 3 hotels were clean, functional, had good to great views (especially Lobesa) and especially friendly and efficient staff. Rooms were good and comfortable. The staff spoke good English and was always smiling, friendly and eager to assist and please. At the Metta Hotel, we were privileged to meet the Owner Mr. Tobgay and had some very good conversations with him. He came across as a passionate hotelier as we saw him early in the morning and again late at night.
Tours
We thoroughly enjoyed the tours and found it interesting, very satisfying and imparted to us a sense of overall uniqueness. The Tiger's Nest hike proved too challenging for me and my mother in law and so we stopped at the half way point. My much fitter wife and daughters made it to the top and were thrilled with the views and the hike. We also had a traditional Hot Stone bath afterwards and it worked wonders for our weary bones. We also included Lunch and a Tea Break at Uma Paro (very nice).
Transportation
The Toyota van provided was indeed a comfortable and sturdy vehicle and managed all the curves, bumps, inclines and mud tracks well with no difficulty at all.
However, the three arm rests in the 2nd row left a little to be desired - one was stuck at a silly angle upwards / the other stuck pointed downwards / and one altogether missing. This would have provided better comfort and security in all those bumpy and curving roads. Both driver and guide were told.
Guide and driver
These two extraordinary people were perfect in every way.
Tandi the was a brilliant driver, disciplined, never took any risks, drove at always the right speeds, took trouble to gently guide the vehicle through sometimes tough terrain and always made it look simple.
He has an accommodating character and we liked him a lot. He was also always helpful and charming. Our Hero.
Kuenzang was a lovely, helpful, adoring person who could understand my sometimes corny humor and even respond to it. She spoke excellent English and moderate Mandarin which was very useful for communicating with my mother in law. She was ever so helpful and accommodating and was a great assistance to us all and especially to my mother in law. She physically assisted my mother in law in all the hikes and that was very much appreciated. Her professionalism and friendly demeanor contributed in no small way to us having a brilliant holiday. She is to be commended for this. Our special thanks to her.
Sanjay, overall it was a splendid holiday and my thanks to you too for being a helpful and charming holiday planner. I appreciate it.
With best regards,
Jamal, Jessica and Justina and Jasmine HUSSAIN / Madam Tan.
