Family trip to bhutan with great hospility
Dear Mr Sonam,
Thanks for your email below.
Yes, we returned to Singapore safely as scheduled on Saturday, 19.12.2015.
My family and I are happy and would like to thank you for all your kind arrangements for our Bhutan holidays. We had a good guide, Miss Kinley Om and a very experienced and good driver, Mr. Passang. These 2 worked very well together and took good care of us. They are very punctual, very well mannered, and informative and we really enjoyed having them with us for 7 days. During the 7 days, they are like part of our family. With them, my family made it right up to the Tiger's Nest and for myself, I had the guidance and help of Mr Passang and managed to reach up to the Cafeteria (2,111m) which was a real achievement. Air is really thin along the way from the base for us, I don't feel good but need to rest, take in deep breath and then walk again.
We were happy to join your local people and some foreigners in celebrating your National Day on 17.12.2015 at the Paro Palace where the Royal Family attended too. Miss Kinley was so kind to help dress my 2 daughters in your national costume (KIRA) to celebrate your national day and they could be mistaken for being locals. A tourist thought my daughters and Miss Kinley are sisters and asked to take pictures with them. Well, well... it is ok. I also met a Taiwan media group (iwalker show) who was filming Bhutan at the Cafeteria to Tiger's Nest.
Feedbacks, it was too cold in Punakha and Paro:
1). Hotel Lobesa - too cold because there was some gaps under the door and cold air came in.
- We informed the hotel owner and they kindly gave my husband and I two hot bottles on the second night and it was ok.
- Food was good and owner was caring. Service was good.
2). Metta Hotel, Paro - very cold but it was very good with the electric blankets.
- Frequent electric power failure due to overloads. Not hotel's fault because it was across Paro it seemed.
- Food was very good in this hotel and we enjoyed the care given the hotel owners. Service was good.
3). Norbuling, Thimphu - Toilet was run-down and the water leaked in sink and tap areas. No hot water from the shower for my room, maybe I don't know how to use it. But room heater is very good and service good too.
We had no problem with the dog barking, no need ear plugs.
4). Itinerary cannot be followed fully because of time and museum was closed on National Day but we have no problems with these. We visited UMA Paro instead.
5). Tips for Bhutan trip based on our experience:
- Need to take the motion sickness tablets half an hour before landing in Paro Airport because of the winding road from Paro Airport to Thimphu. My Family and I felt sick along this way. Then Miss Kinley was so kind to ask for ginger water from hotel and we were fine after resting. Every day, we had to take our motion sickness tablet (Novomin) before we start our journey and we were fine.
- Always wear good tracking / hiking shoe with good grip and goetex (water proof).
- Charcoal hand warmers will be good for the winter season.
I will discuss with my family to help write reviews in the Facebook given by you below. We have also duly completed your survey form with nice comments on the last day.
All in all, we are happy with the trip and once again thank yourself, our guide - Miss Kinley Om, our driver - Mr Passang for making this mission smooth going and successful and we have good memories of Bhutan though it is really challenging to travel due to the mountainous terrain.
Dear Mr Sonam,
Please help me to thank Eve for helping me at the beginning to provide information and book the air-tickets. She had been very helpful too.
Kind Regards,
Karen Cheng and on behalf of my family
